Overview
Australia submitted its first Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) in 2016, followed by an updated version in 2022. In September 2025, Australia submitted its most recent NDC.
Aligned with the country's Net Zero Plan for 2050, the latest NDC commits Australia to cutting net greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 62–70% below 2005 levels by 2035, covering all sectors of the economy and GHGs.
It prioritizes rapid scale-up of renewable electricity, electrification across transport, buildings and industry, the expansion of clean fuels like hydrogen and green metals and strong support for workers and regions to ensure a just and inclusive transition.
Australia's NDC was developed through industry roundtables and union meetings, community workshops and consultations with youth and First Nations representatives, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) and all levels of government.
