Chanthan Kong
In-Country Facilitator - Cambodia
Mr. Chanthan Kong is a highly accomplished climate change specialist currently serving as the NDC Partnership Specialist for Cambodia under supervision of General Directorate of Policy and Strategy Ministry of Environment. Possessing over seventeen years of dedicated experience, primarily within Southeast Asia, he brings a deep understanding of national and international climate change frameworks, including policies, strategic and action plans, disaster management law, risk management, social protection and environmental and social safeguards.
Based in Cambodia, Mr. Chanthan holds two master's degrees — international community development from Australia and public policy (environmental and social safeguards and climate change) from Japan. His extensive career has involved leading, facilitating and coordinating the preparation and implementation of climate change initiatives for both national and sub-national entities.
His expertise encompasses conducting climate vulnerability assessments, designing resilient infrastructure, monitoring and evaluating climate projects and promoting sustainable development. Mr. Chanthan has significantly contributed to enhancing climate resilience in Cambodia and through his work with prominent international agencies such as the World Bank, ADB, UNDRR, UNDP, UNEP, SGP, UNDAF, UNFCCC, USAID, JICA, EU and GIZ.
