Aibek Samakov

Kyrgyzstan In-Country Facilitator

Dr. Aibek Samakov is the In-Country Facilitator for Kyrgyz Republic. Aibek has over 15 years of professional experience in climate change and biodiversity research in Central Asia with a particular focus on indigenous and community-conserved areas (ICCAs) and community-based adaptive strategies and nature-based solutions. He has developed training materials for the International Secretariat for Water, GEF-funded projects, UNDP/BES-Net, and other organizations. Additionally, Aibek served as an author for the IPBES Global Assessment, the IPBES Values Assessment, and UNEP’s Global Environmental Outlook. He holds a PhD from the University of Bern (Switzerland), a Master's in Natural Resources Management from the University of Manitoba (Canada), and a Master's Diploma in International Relations from the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University (Kyrgyzstan).
