Senior Climate Change Consultant
Maria is the Senior Climate Change Consultant for the NDC Partnership Support Unit. In this role, Maria coordinates the global implementation of the Economic Advisory Initiative, which is embedding advisors in the planning and finance ministries of 31 developing countries and the African Union Commission to strengthen climate-resilient recovery planning in response to COVID-19. Prior to this, she provided program coordination and technical support for the Climate Action Enhancement Package (CAEP), which supported 67 countries to enhance and implement their NDCs by providing technical assistance.
Maria is also currently an Environmental Consultant with the World Bank, where she supports work on climate change, marine plastics, and sustainable development in the Africa and East Asia and Pacific regions. Her previous experience includes work on a wide range of environmental projects and research across the public, private, and civil society sectors, including with the Green Growth Knowledge Partnership (GGKP), Ashoka East Africa, U.S. Department of State, Corporate Executive Board, UNICEF, and U.S. Congress. Maria received a master's degree in international policy and development from Georgetown University and a bachelor's degree in public relations from the University of Texas.
