Ethiopia Facilitator

Mr Asrat Yirgu has over 20 years of high level experience with international organizations across Africa in climate change mitigation/adaptation planning, gender mainstreaming, NAP development, capacity building, vulnerability assessments, monitoring and evaluation systems, community managed disaster risk reduction (CMDRR), climate smart agriculture, environmental policy, climate advocacy and awareness raising, partnership management climate finance and resource mobilization. Recently, Asrat served as the Regional Climate Change coordinator for WWF-ROA in Nairobi and with roles of assisting WWF-CO in Africa to mainstream climate change adaptation, capacity building and implementation of adaptation initiatives. Most recently, he served as a Senior Climate Change Adaptation Advisor to the Environment Forest and Climate Change Commission, through the IISD/NAP Global Network. He holds a Bachelor degree in Natural Science from Alemaya University (Ethiopia), a Master of Science in Environmental Science (climate change, NRM, DRR) from UNESCO-IHE, Institute/College THE NETHERLANDS, and a Masters in Agriculture from the Ethiopian University. 


His position as the in-country facilitator for the Environment Forest and Climate Change Commission (EFCCC) is supported by the Government of the Netherlands.
