Overview

The Gambia submitted its updated NDC in 2021 committing a conditional emissions reduction target of 49.7% by 2030. The priority sectors stated in the updated NDC include agriculture, forestry and other land use, livestock, industrial processes and product use, energy, and waste. The cost of NDC implementation Plan is USD 315,850,000. In addition, the Gambia developed and submitted a Long-term Climate-neutral Development Strategy 2050 (LTS) that focuses on five key emitting sectors: energy, agriculture, waste management, transport, and land use, land use change and forestry.

Partnership Engagement
  • Membership: member since 2019
  • Country Engagement: Since joining the Partnership, The Gambia has requested support related to mainstreaming NDCs into national/subnational planning and budgeting; improving the quality and ambition of the NDC; improving coordination and whole-of-society approach; and preparation of NDC-related projects and pipelines for investment. With Partnership support, The Gambia has developed an NDC Implementation Plan for the period 2022-2026 with 32 outcomes covering energy, industrial processes and product use, agriculture, land use, land use change, and forestry, waste, enabling environment for climate resilience, and climate-resilient land use planning, mapping, and information systems. In addition, partners have supported various activities including NDC review and development of the LT-LEDS.
