COP31: Advancing Electrification and NDC Implementation — Country Experience from Iraq and the Middle East
Iraq officially launched its updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) on 7 October 2026, setting out enhanced climate ambitions and implementation priorities across the energy, electricity, transport and industrial sectors, alongside measures to strengthen climate resilience.
This country-led event will explore how Iraq and other countries in the Middle East can translate their NDC energy priorities into reliable, lower-emission electricity systems and practical electrification pathways. Bringing together government representatives, regional peers and implementation partners, the discussion will examine experiences in renewable energy integration, grid readiness, energy efficiency and electrification of transport and productive sectors. Particular attention will be given to the institutional, technical and investment requirements for implementation, including opportunities for international cooperation, improved electricity services and measurable progress toward national climate and development objectives.
