Call Summary

The UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), via the Early Warning Early Action (EWEA) Small Grants Fund, hosted by the British Red Cross (BRC), has made available funds for REAP Partners to travel to relevant events. The REAP membership is invited to consider applying for support. Details are below.

The purpose of the bursaries is to enable individuals from low-income or lower-middle-income countries or regions who are members of a REAP Partner organisation, network, or initiative to attend relevant early warning and early action events that they would otherwise be unable to attend.

To apply: Applicants must complete the short form below, gather evidence of costs and a small budget, and send these to [email protected]. Please also contact this mailbox with any questions.

Eligibility Criteria

Please reference the full opportunity note for more information on the bursaries, eligibility criteria, and costs covered.

Applicants who meet all of the following criteria and sub-criteria:

  1. Member of a REAP Partner organisation, network or initiative.
  2. Nationally- or regionally-based in a low-income country/region or lower-middle-income country/region.
  3. The proposed event is relevant to the early warning and early action agenda (demonstrated via the application form).
  4. The applicant has secured permission to attend the event already and can provide this with their application:
    1. Authorisation/request to travel from the REAP Partner.
    2. Event accreditation.
  5. Participation in the event is planned, i.e. a speaking role, panel role, etc. or other contribution. Attendance alone does not qualify.
  6. The applicant meets compliance requirements:
    1. Consents to be screened against UK and international regulatory requirements.
    2. Consents to sign an acceptance of terms letter.
    3. Has a registered bank account in their name that matches their passport or whose Partner organisation, network, or initiative has the same.
    4. Consents to a short feedback conversation with the REAP Secretariat or to filling out a questionnaire within 1 month of the event ending and no later than 30 November 2025.

The bursaries are designed for individuals who would not otherwise have access to travel funding. This excludes employees of international organisations headquartered in Europe or North America, even if the employee works in a low-income or lower-middle-income country or region and even if their employment contract is not directly with the international headquarters (i.e., the contract is with a regional or national office). European and North American international organisations are expected to fund travel for their staff.

In addition, each REAP Partner organisation, network, or initiative is eligible for a maximum of one travel bursary per country per event. In other words, an individual from country A and an individual from country B are both eligible for bursaries for an event in country C. However, if two individuals from country A participate in the event in country C, only one will be eligible for the bursary. This is to ensure diversity of representation; the Fund will not provide bursaries for large delegations from a single country.
